LET THE HARVESTING BEGIN!
I started picking this week here at the Vicarage. I gave the kids some kale yesterday and the peas will probably be ready by Friday.
Today I picked some black raspberries and….
POTATOES!
We ate these with our dinner tonight. I roasted them with salt, pepper and sage and mushroom infused olive oil I picked up at Not Just Produced .
A WALK AROUND THE VICARAGE6-24-25
If we were to walk around the Vicarage today you would see that the forest garden is coming into full bloom.
The lilies above are the first of the season and they are coming into bloom at the same time as the Lady’s mantle in the picture below.
I keep a good supply of clover growing throughout the garden. It helps keep the rabbits from eating the lettuces.
The bishop’s weed is springing up everywhere.
While the main fragrance is the Japan’s. This flowers may not be much to look at but they pack a powerful fragrance punch.
Strewn along the garden paths is copious amounts of Maryjane and creeping Jenny interspersed with wild daisies.
The summer squash is starting to blossom.
And I have to start using more Thai basil before it goes to seed.
Finally the sinking garden is starting to fill out nicely. I hope you enjoyed our walk.

AROUND THE VICARAGE 6-3-25
I am so privileged to live where I do! It’s a lovely little town and the neighborhood around the Vicarage is like one big garden.
The neighbors directly behind me have an entire lawn of paintbrush.
I have a few stands of Siberian iris, My Nextdoor neighbor has hundreds.
He also planted this stand of four o:clocks in the wild part of his yard.
The whole neighborhood is filled with the scent of my black locust trees.

THE FOREST GARDEN 6-2-25
In spite of some unseasonably cool weather (at least for recent memory) gardens at the Vicarage are moving on in all their spring time glory.
The dandelions are going to seed and the Maple trees are releasing their seed pods which means the air around the Vicarage has taken on a decidedly sylvan quality.
It’s past Memorial Day. So while the nights are still cool, the danger of frost has mostly passed. I took last weekend to put most of my garden in the ground.
The lilacs are in full bloom. The air is filled with their scent
The garden has several stands of irises.
We have also had much rain and finding time to mow between the raindrops has been something of a challenge. Because of this, the forest garden is filled with creeping Mary Janes, false strawberry and wild asters.
It’s a beautiful time of year.
MEMORIAL DAY WORK WEEK
It was a busy Memorial Day weekend.
Today (May 29th), being Ascension Day, our church is beginning a season of concentrated prayer which will go on until Pentecost Sunday.
That means getting the projects done at the Vicarage took front burner status as we approached the holy days. I wanted to get the gardens at least partially planted. I wanted to get the chicken coops finished. We are pretty close with the coops.
Sunday, Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday the fam worked hard.
The tomato trellis is now set up.
Once all the vegetables and herbs are in I will start building the stone walls around the box gardens.
It was a very productive weekend. Now on to prayer!
