The Forest Garden Sept. 2025

As always happens at this time of year, I look back and think of all the projects I wanted to accomplish in the forest garden over the summer.

I usually look back with a regret. This year not so much. It’s not that I accomplished all those projects, but I did accomplish some and I did a lot of gardening in comparison to previous years.

I think a part of my satisfaction this year, comes from the fact that we have actually used a lot of the produce from the forest garden. We have been making iced tea from this mint all summer in place of Kool-Aid.

The chickens have been keeping us in eggs as well.

For the first time ever, I had success with potatoes.

And the flowers this year, have been amazing.

MEMORIAL DAY WORK WEEK

It was a busy Memorial Day weekend.

Today (May 29th), being Ascension Day, our church is beginning a season of concentrated prayer which will go on until Pentecost Sunday.

That means getting the projects done at the Vicarage took front burner status as we approached the holy days. I wanted to get the gardens at least partially planted. I wanted to get the chicken coops finished. We are pretty close with the coops.

Sunday, Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday the fam worked hard.

The tomato trellis is now set up.

Once all the vegetables and herbs are in I will start building the stone walls around the box gardens.

It was a very productive weekend. Now on to prayer!

CLEARING THE LAND

After Brenda and I were finished with the APPLE AND GROMMETS episode the other day, the second shift came in to work at The Vicarage.

My daughter, Melanie, and my daughter-in-law, Kristine, came to clear some of the property at the back of the house to make way for the building of a natural fence and for a strawberry patch.

They had to cut out a lot of black raspberry vines, golden rod stems and barberry thorn as well as a rather nasty wild rose bush that has made its presence quite unwelcome.

Meanwhile the grandchildren relaxed inside watching Moana while I finished up dinner for us all.

After dinner I had a meeting at the church and when I got back the strawberry patch looked like this.

WAY TO GO LADIES OF THE SECOND SHIFT!!!!
